Submission Guidelines

SEM Student News publishes two issues a year, in Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter, and accepts article submissions both related and unrelated to each issues particular theme. All submissions should follow Chicago Manual of Style 17th edition (author-date) formatting, using in-text citations and a reference list, and be between approximately 500–1500 words in length. Please send submissions to the editor ( in .docx (text), .jpg or .tiff (photography and images), .mp3 or .flac (audio), and/or .mp4 (video) formats. Be sure to include your contact information and university affiliation in your email.

We accept general submissions (on any and all ethnomusicology-related topics) throughout the year.

Submissions specific to an upcoming issue's theme, and/or intended for publication in an upcoming issue, should be submitted by the deadline stated in the relevant call for submissions, which will be circulated via this website and the SEM Listserv, and posted to our Facebook and Twitter pages.
